Together We Grow: Grants in Action

The Drug-Free Communities (DFC) grant is awarded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in partnership with the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). This competitive federal grant supports coalitions across the nation in their efforts to reduce youth substance use.
LIVE was awarded the DFC grant in 2023, receiving $125,000 annually for up to five years, with the potential for a second five-year renewal period.
The two overarching goals of the DFC grant are:
  • To strengthen collaboration among community sectors to support youth prevention efforts
  • To reduce substance use among youth, including alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and other illicit substances
DFC funds are used to support coalition staffing, prevention campaigns, school partnerships, training, and data collection.
  • The Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking Act (STOP Act) is a federal grant designed to enhance and strengthen efforts to prevent underage drinking. LIVE was awarded this grant in 2024, adding targeted support for alcohol-focused initiatives.
Funding from the STOP Act allows LIVE to:
    • Implement environmental strategies aimed at reducing youth access to alcohol
    • Launch education and media campaigns about the risks of underage drinking
    • Conduct compliance checks and community outreach
    • Host town halls and stakeholder meetings to engage local leaders in alcohol prevention
This grant complements our DFC work by allowing us to dive deeper into alcohol-specific prevention strategies.
LIVE was one of just six organizations nationwide selected to receive the Teens Linked to Care (TLC) grant in 2025. Funded through a private foundation in partnership with the CDC, TLC supports integrated school-based prevention initiatives with a focus on:
  • Health Education: Ensuring students receive accurate, relevant information on substance use and mental health
  • Access to Services: Strengthening school-to-community referral systems and connecting students to care
  • Safe & Supportive Environments: Creating school climates that foster wellness and resilience
This grant was in partnership with New Castle Community School Corporation and Henry County Health Department.
