Town Hall Series

Town Hall Series

LIVE hosts topic-specific town halls focused on youth vaping, underage drinking, mental health, and more. These events bring together community leaders, parents, and youth to discuss trends, share stories, and create solutions.
The Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) is SAMSHA’s five-step comprehensive approach to understanding and addressing substance misuse and related behavioral health problems in specific communities.

  1. Assessment: Identify local prevention needs based on data (i.e. What is the problem?). In Canton, one way this occurs is student surveys, such as the YRBS.

  1. Capacity: Build local resources and readiness to address prevention needs (i.e. What do you have to work with?

  1. Planning: Find out what works to address prevention needs and how to do it well (i.e.  What should you do and how should you do it?)

  1. Implementation: Deliver evidence-based interventions as intended (i.e. How can you put your plan into action?

  1. Evaluation: Examine the process and outcomes of interventions (i.e. Is your plan succeeding?

The SPF is guided by the following principles:

  • Cultural competence: The ability of an individual or organization to interact effectively with members of diverse population groups

  • Sustainability: The process of building an adaptive and effective system that achieves and maintains desired long-term results. (i.e. plan for long-term maintenance of the coalition and its efforts)

LIVE’s activities are based directly from this model.
