Hidden In Plain Sight

Hidden in Plain Sight is a hands-on, educational exhibit designed to help adults recognize subtle signs of substance use that may be hidden in a teen’s environment. LIVE has created portable backpack kits for School Resource Officers (SROs) in each district, allowing them to bring this resource directly into schools to educate parents, teachers, and staff.
The exhibit includes realistic props, concealment items, and conversation guides to help adults know what to look for, how to open the dialogue with youth, and how to respond with care, curiosity, and boundaries. It’s a powerful tool for prevention through awareness.

By walking through a makeshift child’s bedroom, parents learn to identify objects that could provide mental health awareness and insights about risky behavior. Amidst the clutter of clothing scattered on the floor, school supplies on a desk, and personal care products on a vanity, there are more than 100 items that can be signs that a young person could be involved in risky, harmful, or even illegal activity. Participants will have an opportunity to interact with the items on display.
